North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festival

The new Autumn festival aims to bring much-needed visitors to the area out of the main holiday season. It is based on the successful Spring walking festival which attracts over 600 walkers and an income of an estimated £96,000 to the area.

The Autumn walking festival is taking place from Friday 18th to Monday 21st September 2009. The festival offers eight guided walks each day, with something for everyone. Experienced walkers can enjoy all-day outings, with themed walks for those interested in local history, nature and literature.  Also on offer are short half-day walks for those just wanting to spend a few hours exploring some of the South West’s most stunning scenery.

Bryan Cath, the festival co-ordinator said, “I have been asked by many of the Spring festival participants to repeat the festival in the autumn, so am glad we have been able to provide this. Both festivals bring walkers into the area off-season, giving accommodation providers a chance to attract visitors to this festival. I encourage all providers to link to the festival web site from their own. This walking festival is now one of the biggest in the country and is something the area can be proud of and benefit from.”

For more information on the festival go to its web site www.walkingnorthdevon.co.uk where tickets can be bought on-line or by calling Ilfracombe Tourist Information centre on 01271 863001.

The Spring Walking Festival will take place from Thursday 29th April to Friday 7th May 2010. It will be our 10th anniversary. We are celebrating it with the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) who are celebrating their 50th.
